Longmont Shock Art | Beet Box

Living in a city with a growing public arts program has been a true privilege. Since moving to Colorado, I’ve always admired the uniquely painted electrical boxes around town, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute to the program myself.

For my design, I drew inspiration from Longmont’s vibrant sugar beet farming history, creating a bold, graphic design that captured the essence of the town’s agricultural roots. I wanted the design to be engaging up close for pedestrians, while still reading clearly from a distance for drivers. To achieve this, I used graphic sugar beets paired with fun, pop-culture-inspired phrases and puns that gave the artwork a playful, approachable feel.

This project was a passion project that not only allowed me to give back to my community but also deepened my connection to the city I now call home. It was a dream come true to see my design become a part of the public art landscape.
